Subrina Professional in Jordan
Wednesday, 21. april 2010.
Subrina Professional is successfully expanding into many countries. Among others, it is present in Canada, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia and also in Jordan. In total it is present in 22 countries, of which Jordan is definitely one of the most interesting. Not only because of its location on a different continent, but also due to its very different culture.
These special cultural features in particular made our visit to Jordan very diverse. The Subrina Team could not hide their surprise at the positive energy and good nature of Jordan's inhabitants. The visit started with a big show, to which only 150 selected hairstylists were invited. Despite the fact that there are almost only male hairstylists in Amman and the Subrina Team was represented by two
female hairstylists, the applause and the excitement were indescribable. The team had thus dispelled any initial doubts and proven that there was a reason behind their participation in many international shows, seminars and various presentations in the last 50 years. After the show, the participants had their photo taken, followed by an excellent banquet organised by the hosts. In response to the splendid reaction to Subrina Professional, a promise was made to return again.
Apart from the show, the Subrina Team members also organised a small seminar and visited a few hair salons where they demonstrated the newest hair-cutting techniques and the latest fashion trends in hair colouring and styling. They also visited one of the largest hairdressing schools in Amman (UNRWA, created under the auspices of the United Nations). The school is separated into two parts: for male
and female students. The windows of the female students’ area were all covered with curtains in order to prevent unwanted eyes from seeing uncovered women. Also, only the female members of the Subrina Professional team were allowed into the female part.
The clear and strict Muslim code of conduct was evident at almost every turn. Due to the Muslim religion, almost all women are completely covered. This led to an interesting event prior to our arrival since we were not allowed to bring pictures or posters with us from our latest collection, since the models in the pictures had been deemed too exposed. But in the end, our visit and performance convinced everyone that this was a matter of fashion and had to be accepted as it was, despite
certain religious rules.
And now some interesting information for those thinking of travelling to Jordan. Jordan has a population of 6,316,000; the capital Amman has a population of just over 2 million. It's a very interesting country and the following landmarks are most frequently visited by tourists: Jerash (the largest Greco-Roman city outside of Italy or Greece), Mount Nebo (where Moses was supposedly buried; on clear days, Jerusalem and Bethlehem
are visible from the summit), the Dead Sea (the lowest lying sea in the world; its salinity makes for a harsh environment where animals cannot flourish, hence its name), Petra (where you can take a walk or a horse ride and enjoy the magnificent views or listen to stories told by the local Bedouins) and the capital Amman. The main sightseeing attractions in the capital are the Citadel and the
Amphitheatre.
